TSA-3B
TELEPHONE SUPERVISORY ADAPTER WITH BEEP

DESCRIPTION
The TSA-3B is used to connect your Omnicron recorder to a telephone set. It can be used
with both single and multi-line telephones. The unit has a BEEP tone generator to remind
you that your conversation is being recorded and is compatible with most telephone styles
that have a standard modular handset or headset jack.
INSTALLATION
The TSA-3B is supplied with cables and connectors that have been wired to meet most
standard applications. Both the volume and interval of the BEEP tone are adjustable.
1. Unplug the handset (or headset) cord from your telephone and plug it into one of the
two jacks on the adapter ("A" on the drawing below).
2. Using the short cable which was supplied with the TSA-3B, plug one end of the cable
into the handset jack on your phone and the other end of the cable into the remaining jack
on the TSA-3B adapter. Your telephone should now function normally since its handset has
been reconnected through the TSA-3B adapter.
3. The TSA-3B can now be connected to your Omnicron recorder. Connect the cable with the
small plug labeled REM to the REM (Remote) jack on your recorder ("B" on the
drawing below). Connect the other cable with the plug labeled AUX to the AUX (Auxiliary)
jack on your recorder ("C" on the drawing below).
4. Locate a convenient spot on your phone to mount the TSA-3B adapter ("A" on
the drawing below), Insure that it will not interfere with the operation of the phone. Use
the double stick foam tape and cable ties which are included.
5. Plug the AC power adapter ("D" below) into a suitable wall outlet. If the AC
adapter is not plugged in, you will still be able to record but there will not be a beep
tone on the phone while you are recording.

OPERATION
The TSA-3B feeds the audio from your telephone handset to your recorder. It detects when
you are recording and generates a BEEP tone which is fed to the mouthpiece of your
handset. Operate the recorder as outlined in its owners manual.
The BEEP tone circuit senses that your recorder is recording through the cable that is
plugged into the REM jack on your recorder. The BEEP can be eliminated either by
disconnecting the REM cable or unplugging the AC power adapter. A green light on the front
of the TSA-3B will be lit whenever you are recording and the BEEP circuit is active. Since
the beep is active only when the recorder is running in the record mode, the TSA-3B will
stop beeping if the recorder stops running due to a lack of handset audio.
BEEP VOLUME
On the bottom of the TSA-3B is a switch for setting the BEEP tone to either a high level
for older style telephones, or to a lower level if it is used with new style telephones.
The "HANDSET TYPE" switch is accessible through a hole on the bottom of the
unit. If the BEEP is extremely loud, slide this switch to the "NEW STYLE PHONES"
position. If you do not hear the beep, or it is very weak, set it to the "OLD STYLE
PHONES" position. The volume of the BEEP can also be changed by adjusting the
"BEEP LEVEL" calibration adjustment which is accessible through a hole on the
bottom of the unit.
BEEP INTERVAL
The BEEP INTERVAL calibration adjustment on the bottom of the unit can be used to change
the interval between beeps. The beep interval should be set so that the beeps occur every
15 seconds.
IN CASE OF DIFFICULTY
If the unit fails to work, recheck all connections and test your recorder to see that it
is operating properly. The TSA-3B will only beep when it is connected to an Omnicron
recorder which is running in the record mode, and to a telephone which is being used.
Telephone assistance is available from your place of purchase, or directly from Omnicron
Electronics at the phone numbers listed below.
