LIC-39R ISOLATION COUPLER

LIC-39R Isolation Coupler

DESCRIPTION
The LIC-39R isolation coupler is used to connect a logging recorder to telephone circuits. It provides a balanced line-input, transformer isolation, capacitive coupling, RF bypass, and balanced line-output. A voltage sensing mute circuit prevents voice activated recorders from false triggering when the coupler is connected to a voltage controlled telephone line.
The high impedance input circuit permits connection to balanced and unbalanced audio sources, with minimal loading. No internal or external power is required, 3"L x 2"W x 1"H. It has a six foot input cable and an eighteen inch output cable, both are terminated with RJ-11 phone plugs.

INSTALLATION
The input cable (normally the long cable with a modular RJ-11 telephone style plug pre-installed on the end) should be connected to your telephone line. If the modular plug is not used, connect the red wire in the input cable to one side of the circuit and the green wire to the other side of the circuit. Polarity is not important.
Connect the other cable (normally the short cable with a modular RJ-11 telephone style plug pre-installed on the end) to the audio input of your recording equipment. With digital logging recorders this cable should plug into one of the line input jacks on the back of your recorder.
If the coupler was special ordered, the cables and terminations may have been changed to match your specific application.

OPERATION
There are no switches or user adjustments. If the coupler is connected to a standard telephone line, there will be a DC voltage present that is higher when the circuit is not being used than when the line is in use. Noise on the telephone line will not be coupled to the output of the coupler when the phone is not in use and the voltage on the line is greater than 35 volts DC. When the phone is in use and the voltage drops below 35 volts DC, this circuit permits all sounds on the couplers input to reach its output.

IMPORTANT NOTES
Use of the LIC-39R coupler on telephone circuits which are not private may be regulated by local tariffs. If local tariffs apply, contact your telephone company for application assistance.
Do not use the LIC-39R on a party or pay phone line, since it will record the conversations of all parties. This would be unlawful.
Federal law 90-351 title 18, section 2511, sub section 2D, requires that at least one participant in a recorded conversation be informed of the recording. Check your state and local regulations for further guidelines.
The LIC-39R is warranted to be free from defects in materials or workmanship for one year from the date of purchase. Damage to products resulting from physical abuse or electrical misuse voids this warranty. Out of warranty units will be repaired for a nominal handling charge plus the cost of parts and transportation. If the unit requires service, disconnect the unit and return it to the factory or your place of purchase for repair.

Contact your Omnicron representative for assistance in the selection of the products that are best suited to your application.
