6     Switching On and Getting Started

6.1     General

Once the line interface cables have been connected, connect the power cable and switch ON the recorder. The power ON/OFF switch is located next to the power connector at the rear of the unit.

Initially, you will hear the internal fan start, the internal hard drive operating and see blue line activity on the LCD screen. You will hear an initial “beep” from the system, the Total Recall logo will be displayed and finally a hum from the speaker. This is normal. After start up, the Logging Menu will be displayed with the Padlock Icon “locked”. This menu is the “default” menu that the system will revert to after 120 seconds of inactivity.

Change the contrast of the LCD screen by holding down the <#> (hash) key and pressing either of the <UP> <DOWN> arrow keys. Before commencing to navigate the menu structure, enter the password [default 0000] at the Logging Menu and then press <SELECT>. The Padlock Icon in the top right corner of the LCD displays “unlocked”.
